Our mission is to make the Australian Defence Force Cadets safe, adventurous, fun and accessible to all young Australians.
Due to the increased prevalence of allergies in the community, we have developed an allergy management policy that applies to existing and potential cadets, cadet staff and you, as parents or guardians.
The policy will help us manage allergies to a best practice standard.
Under the policy, it is your responsibility to advise of any known or potential cadet allergies at enrolment and prior to every activity.
Cadets are provided with centralised prepared and/or cooked meals, and/or Australian Defence Force combat ration packs. These are likely to include ingredients not recommended for individuals with severe food allergies that may be life-threatening; or those with special dietary requirements, such as Coeliac disease.
So, please take the time to understand your allergy management responsibilities as a parent or guardian of an existing or potential cadet.
An allergy management plan is currently being developed for use in all units. In the meantime, cadet staff have been encouraged to document management plans and information for cadets with allergies based on best practice.
If you would like further information about how the policy applies to your son or daughter or yourself, speak to the unit commander or email allergy.management@cadetnet.gov.au
