The Australian Defence Force Cadets is made up of: 
  • Australian Navy Cadets
  • Australian Army Cadets
  • Australian Air Force Cadets

The Australian Defence Force Cadets is supported by the Cadet, Reserve and Employer Support Division (CRESD) that provides policy advice on youth and youth development.

There are:

  • 461 cadet units in all States and Territories made up of:
    • 91 Australian Navy Cadet Training Ships;
    • 227 Australian Army Cadet Units; and
    • 144 Australian Air Force Cadet Squadrons

 

  • 21,468 Australian Defence Force Cadets made up of:
    • 1,906 Australian Navy Cadets;
    • 13,706 Australian Army Cadets; and
    • 5,856 Australian Air Force Cadets.

 

  • 2,063 Australian Defence Force Cadet staff

Other interesting facts:

  • Cadets represent less then one percent of their age cohort
  • Cadets represent over 17 percent of enlistments into the Australian Defence Force
  • Cadets represent between 35 and 40 percent of Australian Defence Force Academy entrants
  • Cadets serve longer in the Australian Defence Force and achieve more senior ranks
