During cadet activities participants may be provided with meals. The details of any catering arrangements will be included in the activity joining instructions. The Australian Defence Force (ADF) is unable to provide a severe food allergy free environment (such as from peanuts) in relation to the consumption of food during cadet activities. Such a risk may be life threatening for people who suffer from a severe food allergy. Parents may consider it is in their child’s best interest not to allow participation of their child in the proposed activity. In the event that the child is allowed to attend a catered cadet activity, the parents may choose to provide, at their own expense, sufficient food to cover the duration of the activity.
Depending on the activity these meals may be fresh cooked or may be ration packs. AAC will endeavor to provide a ‘nut-free’ food environment. It is sufficient to eliminate food that has the allergen as an ingredient. It is not practical to eliminate all foods which have ‘may contain …’ warnings on the packaging.
Below are links to the menus of ration packs provided on AAC field activities. Parents/Guardians are advised to review the menu details to ensure their child/ward is able to safely consume the contents of the ration packs. Any food items that are not able to be consumed must be included in the activity consent documentation and suitable alternatives discussed with the officer in charge of the activity.
