About the AAC Use of Socila Media Policy
Social media encompasses a broad range of online activities, including:
- discussion boards such as Whirlpool and GeekZone
- blogging, such as on media websites and micro blogging websites such as Twitter
- social networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace, Hi5 and Linkedln
- video and photo sharing websites such as YouTube and Flickr
The AAC recognises the importance of social media as a powerful communications tool and recognises that participation in online communities as a basic individual right. However, the AAC has a responsibility to manage its reputation and contribute to the good reputation of its parent organisation, the Australian Army. To achieve this outcome, the only people that may offer official AAC comment on social media sites, or publish material on those sites, are those specifically authorised to do so by the Commander AAC.
The AAC recognises that its members may participate in social media in their personal time at their own discretion. However, individuals may breach AAC policy and/or Cadet Forces Regulations 1977 if, during their participation in social media activity, they reference their association with the AAC or the Australian Army and/or make inappropriate, inaccurate or unauthorised comment and/or include unauthorised content about the AAC, the Australian Army or any member of the AAC or Army.
